Description
For the first time in the history of Los Angeles Harbor flags of Soviet Russia and Japan, deep enemies, are shown flying almost together when ships from the two countries tied up at a wharf recently. This marked the first time that a Soviet ship had entered the port. At left is the Japanese freight steamer, Tasuno Maru. At right, flying the hammer and scythe emblem of Communism, is the Soviet motorship, Batum. The two ships loaded oil and then departed. Photo dated: February 13, 1937.
