View of brick and wood buildings in the vicinity of 4th Street, 5th Street and Alameda Street, identified as the former home of William Wolfskill (1798–1866). Title devised by cataloger. Date range approximated by cataloger based on the year that film negatives came into use and the latest known dates indicated for other Hazard images in the Huntington's collection. A print of this image in the Huntington Library's Hazard-Dyson Photograph Collection has writing that identifies this as "Wolfskill home. 4th and 5th and Alameda Sts., L. A." Another source says "... to reach William Wolfskill's home, which was in the neighborhood of the present Arcade Depot, one was obliged to travel to Aliso Street, thence to Alameda, and then south on Alameda to Wolfskill's orchard." (p. 112)-(Source: "Sixty Years in Southern California, 1853-1913, Containing the Reminiscences of Harris Newmark," The Knickerbocker Press, 1926.)
