Description
Note: Als Nr. 62 publiziert im Album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer', Neuenburg 1895.
Note translation: Published as no 62 in the album 'Achtzig Ansichten von der Goldküste (Westafrika) nach Originalaufnahmen des Missionars Fritz Ramseyer' (= 'Eighty pictures of the Gold Coast (West Africa) photographed by the missionary Fritz Ramseyer'), Neuchâtel 1895. - Caption there: "Our schoolboys at their meal. - From time to time the pupils of our boys' boarding school are allowed to accompany the missionaries on a preaching tour, because their singing always tempts a large number of people to come out onto the street and listen. When we come to one of our outstations they take the opportunity to prepare fufu. The picture shows these lads eating. Five to eight of them sit around each bowl, using their fingers to transport a piece of fufu with soup to their mouths." - The French version of the album ('Quatre-vingts vues...') says that they have a day off every month to go travelling with the missionaries.
