Description
The original adobe ranch house (left) and the limestone "Garnier House" (right - built in 1872 by French Basque sheepman, Eugene Garnier) are reflected in the lake that abutts them. Photo caption reads: "Plan to preserve Encino landmark meets stalemate. This picturesque lake is part of the 4 1/2 acre historic property known as the Amestoy Ranch in Encino. Efforts to preserve the ranch, one of Southern California's most famous landmarks, as a state park, met a stalemate today as ranch owners boosted the original price of $50,000 by more the $15,000 and city councilmen rejected requests for more money for the purchase of the property". Photo dated: 1949.
