Bust-length portrait.
Born in 1857 to Thomas Grafton Lambert and Adeline Hardy near Napa. Family eventually settled in Downieville. Hester educated at the Benicia Seminary and, later, Home School for Girls, Oakland. Returned to Downieville where married Frank Harland, a mining engineer, in 1875.
