Description
The first baptismal record of June 6th, 1777 indicates that the first baptisms of Mission Santa Clara took place in the Indian villages surrounding the Mission, for the Franciscan missionaries went to these villages when they learned that several Indian children were ill. The first native baby was christened with the symbolic name Clara by the founder of Mission Santa Clara Fray Thomas de la Peña. (Libro de Bautismos I)
