Photograph caption dated January 8, 1958 reads "James Kerby, 14, and Ken Bierszczak, 13, of Rancho San Antonio's Boys Town of the West in Chatsworth feed their steed Speed carrots and apples. Horsemanship plays important part in boys lives at Rancho. Shortage of hay and grain threatens to curtail this program. Rancho has made public appeal for grain and hay. Occasionally, some members of Rough Riders are able to find work nearby to earn money to buy feed, but amount contributed isn't enough."
