Description
Biography/History: Marta Santamaría was born and raised in El Salvador and came to the United States in 1977. After living and working in North Carolina for a time, she took a job in the kitchen at the Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. Marta, her husband, and her mostly Salvadorian colleagues turned the hotel into one of the most active union hotels in the city. She eventually was hired by Local 11 and, at the time of the interview, was serving as an organizing director with the union, advising on organizing campaigns in Los Angeles and other cities.
