Description
This August 1942 photograph shows sugar bags and fiberboard cases stored in the warehouse at the Bercut Richards Packing Company.
The Bercut-Richards Packing Company incorporated as the Bear River Packing Company under the presidency of Thomas H. Richards in 1931 but did not begin operations until April of 1932 under the name Bercut-Richards. Their first job involved the packing of asparagus and they promoted themselves as hiring only Sacramento-based labor and turning away job seekers from other areas. By 1952, they were one of the five major canneries in the region and T.H. Richards was a director of California Processors and Growers Inc.
