The rowboat contains two people, one of which is in mid-oarstroke. From the silhouettes, the sailboat also appears to have two people, and has its oars in the water despite its open sail. In the background, a much larger ship with two masts can be seen in profile, along with the peaks of several mountains. A few small rocks are visible above the water to the left.
