This was the gratifying scene in the Hollywood Bowl on July 26, 1951, as thousands of Los Angeles lovers of music attended the reopening of the famed open-air theater. The splash of light from the huge shell glittered with new life, seemingly thankful that its greatness was not to be forgotten. The evening's weather was perfect. The roaring applause told the triumph of the resumed Symphonies Under the Stars.
