The bank was owned by a Los Angeles resident until his evacuation with his family to Gila River Relocation Camp in Arizona in 1943. At the onset of World War II all assets were frozen and the owner lost his investment. After the war, Yokohama Specie Bank became The Bank Of Tokyo, Ltd. in 1947, and in 1953 it established a San Francisco subsidiary called The Bank of Tokyo California (BOTC).
