Description
Photograph of a drawing of Monterey, published in the book "United States Illustrated, Volume I", ca.1860. The image shows several buildings near a rocky part of the sea shore. On a bluff overlooking a group of large rocks, there is a two-story building with a balcony next to a flagless flag pole. Between the town and this bluff is an empty field in which a herd of cattle is grazing. There are five pointed mountains in the background. The book was edited by Charles A. Dana and published by Herman J. Meyers in New York.
