Description
This photograph, capturing the operations of the Perkins Gravel Company at 1846 37th St., was taken on Oct. 27, 1941. Ready-mixed concrete, crushed rock, road rock, sand and gravel formed the purview of the company, a subsidiary of one of Sacramento’s longest standing paving and construction entities, A. Teichert and Sons. Teichert was started in 1887 at 24th and J streets by Adolph Teichert, a native of Hamburg, Germany. In addition to paving a number of roads and sidewalks throughout the City and County of Sacramento, marquee projects included portions of the Shasta Dam, several defense projects at Mather and McClellen Fields during the First and Second World War, and runways at the Sutterville Aerodrome, later to be renamed Sacramento Executive Airport.
