Description
This circa 1920 view of the pond at Southside Park comes from the southwest. Planning for the park at Seventh and V Streets, was started in the spring of 1906 when the city passed an ordinance to purchase lands and establish a recreational area with land costs not to exceed 14,200 dollars. Aiding in the designed of the park was John McLaren, landscape gardener and superintendent of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco who recommended the park be more of a recreational center and playground than a beauty spot.
