Description
White HMong women and children gather outdoors during a New Year celebration in Sam Thong, Laos located in Xiangkhouang province. The women pictured are dressed in traditional Xiangkhouang garments, including black pants, black jackets with dark blue sleeve cuffs, pink and green belts, and purple turbans (phuam txoom suab) held together with striped ribbons (siv ceeb). Many women are pictured without the striped ribbon on their turbans, as married women often do not wear the ribbon with their festive dress. Also visible are people holding closed umbrellas and several babies in baby carriers.
