Description
Photograph of a drawing by Edward Vischer depicting a Southern California Stage Line stage coach en route between Santa Barbara and San Buenaventura during a midnight in 1863, as seen from behind, ca.1865-1871. Two coachmen press the coach's team of six horses further down the rocky path, a difficult-to-pass mountainside to their left. White surf is crashing its way in over the rocky path to their right, impinging on the narrow strip of dry ground they are treading. Text written below the image identifies the stage coach, its line, its route and the time. Photoprint reads "Beached at Midnight in the Rain". Other written text reads "Sketched 1865. Drawn 1871.".
