Photograph was edited for publication purposes Ahmad Kamal's expertise as mentioned is debated. He was reputedly born Cimarron Hathaway in Colorado and adopted the pseudonym Ahmad Kamal. He's also credited with involvement with Amelia Earhart's adventures in the Weihsien Internment Camp in China. Accountings indicate Kamal lived in Los Angeles from 1945 to 1951, then moving to Indonesia where he initiated the Jami'at al-Islam charity, then moving on to Barcelona and perhaps Burma/Myanmar. He died in Santa Barbara in 1989. He authored "Full Fathom Five" and "Land Without Laughter" and translated "Seven Questions of Timur." Photograph caption dated July 1, 1954 reads, "New approach in U.S. Foreign Policy - Ahmad Kamal, left, a Valley resident, and authority on matters pertaining to the Far East and Middle East, reveals the Asiatic man-in-the-street opinions and ideals to Valley times writer Roy C. Bennett in exclusive series of three articles beginning today."
