Title
A slat windbreak on the ranch of W. R. Klink on the windy corner of Fontana. Put in between double row of sugar gums to replace lower branches which drop from this species. It is built on 4 x 4 redwood posts 16 ft. long set every 8 fot. with three 2 x 3 Douglas Fir horizontal stringers. The slats are 3/8 x 3, 12 ft. long set 1 1/2 in. apart. Materials for 680 ft. cost less than $200. The owner and one man put it up at an additional cost of $130 for labor - owner's time not counted. It gives very good protection. 1933. Metcalf
