View of an almond orchard in blossom at Rancho Chico, a 26,000-acre rancho purchased by John Bidwell in 1845-50. His mansion there became the social and cultural center of the upper Sacramento Valley. The plants introduced on the rancho were imported from all over the world and contributed greatly to California's agricultural development.
