Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph dated April 13, 1961 shows a small portion of the land that makes up the Newhall Land and Farming Co., which was bought by Henry Mayo Newhall. The article partially reads, "...when one of the many tides in the development in Southern California had reached an ebb, a major portion -- 46,000 acres -- of Rancho San Francisco, an area that now includes the communities of Newhall, Saugus and Castaic, was put up for sale for $90,000. Newhall bought it."
