Description
This circa 1955 postcard shows the California State Department of Employment's headquarters building, located at Eighth Street and Capitol Mall. The massive, concrete and steel structure - built for 10.4 million dollars - covered two city blocks, from Seventh to Ninth Streets. Architectural guidance was provided by Mid-century master Alfred Eichler, who was also responsible for the Tower Bridge, the design concept behind the Capitol Building's east annex and the just built Education Building.
