Description
From paper accompanying: "Early in our entry into WWII, the West Coast was concerned about attack and bombing from Japan. A program of blackouts and block wardens and assistants were instituted. To combat possible fires, Civilian Defense issued water pump fire extinguishers to wardens and assistants. These were kept in the wardens' side yards at the ready for several years. After the war, the extinguishers were not collected and remained in case of need. This extinguisher found further use in the San Antonio Valley East of Mt. Hamilton for many years. It was used to fight a wild land fire in 1952."
