Photograph caption dated November 12, 1981 reads, "Dignitaries who attended the unveiling of Culver City's tribute to the film industry can be seen through the arch of the sculpture shaped like giant filmstrips during ceremonies in front of the city's Veterans Memorial Auditorium. The 7-ton stainless-steel sculpture, titled 'Film Strip U.S.A.,' by sculptor Natalie Krol, is meant to commemorate Culver City's contribution to American cinema, which was the home of many movie studios during the early decades of the industry. The $130,000 sculpture, which took about six months to complete, was funded by voluntary contributions. Each of the contributors will be given one of the approximately 300 sprocket-hole cutouts from the statue's stainless-steel film loops. The 18-foot high, 32-foot long work of art is at the intersection of Culver and Overland Boulevards. The city council chose Krol to create the statue because of her earlier work for the city, a stainless steel sculpture that was presented as a gift to the city's sister community of Kaizuka, Japan."
