Description
Instructor Harry Claflin (L-R), demonstrates fighting techniques as he kicks survival school student Jack Madeley's back shin. To the side, a group of survival school students: an unididentified assistant, Marilyn Chandler, Allen Mons, Joel Turner, Ron Venn, and another unidentified assistant huddle around to observe. The 160-acre camp, better known as the Starlight Training Center in Liberal, Missouri, was owned by Claflin, a former U.S. Marine in Vietnam. The students are U.S. civilians with different backgrounds and professions who paid money in exchange for survivalist training. Claflin studied the tactics, troop proficiency, and military effectiveness of foreign countries like those in Central America where he trained Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, and Salvadoran special forces. All his assistants have law enforcement or military backgrounds as well.
