Description
Photograph of a view of Santa Monica Boulevard, looking east of Vermont Avenue, showing Ralphs grocery store, 1954 (1951?). The paved lanes of Santa Monica Boulevard occupy the foreground of the image, then recede into the right centerground. Automobiles are parked along both sides of the utility-pole lined street, while a few drive along it in both directions. Ralphs grocery store sits in the centerground, to the left of center, amidst the other commercial buildings that line both sides of the street. Buildings are visible on the hills in the background. Legible signs, from left to right, include: "Medical Center", "Tony's 4 Barbers. Shine", "All American Dry Cleaners Launderers", "'The People Who Care'", "Ralphs", "Cabbage 3. Puss N Boots Cat Food 2 for 13, 2 for 21. Best Foods Mayonnaise 38, 64. Bisquick B[iscui]t Mix [39]", "Magic [...]", "All it needs is Holly Sugar", "Fish. Poultry", "Liquor", "Hote[l]", "Log Cabin".
