Scope/Content: Successful Negotiations End--Ivan J. Houston, pen in hand, representing Golden State Mutual Life Insurance Company, and Arthur H. Higginson, seated second from right, representing the Insurance Workers International Union (AFL-CIO), affix their signatures to a new 3-year contract between the company and the union, culminating a week of negotiations, as other members of the two negotiating teams watch. Seated at left is Stephen Johns, associate agency director for Golden State Mutual; at right is Ernest Shell, senior vice president and agency director. Standing, from left, are IWIU representatives Freddie Watts and Earle Booker of the San Francisco By Area and Isam Taylor and Parnell Neal of Los Angeles. Houston, who headed the company's negotiating team, is senior vice president and actuary of Golden State and Higginson is vice president of the IWIU, which is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
