Description
Shows back end of California Northern engine 105 and the rest of the train on the tracks adjacent to East Cotati Avenue. Roof of warehouse on East Cotati Avenue between the tracks and Santero Way visible behind the train cars.
The Celebration Special honored the final completion of the public purchase from Southern Pacific of the old Northwestern Pacific line between Black Point and Scotia between June 14 and June 22, 1996. The train was headed by Northwestern Pacific engine GP9 3844 and California Northern engine 105, pulling Southern Pacific business car "Sunset;" parlor car "Shasta;" buffet lounge "Hidden Lake;" California Western Railroad coach 656; and two private cars,"Golden Mission" and "Sonoma Valley.

Hal Skinner (1925-2004) moved to Sonoma County from Indiana in 1965 to serve as the first director of the Audio-Visual Department (later Instructional Resources Department) at Sonoma State College (later University). He later taught in the School of Education until retiring in 1988. He took up artist blacksmithing in retirement and was a featured exhibitor at the Gravenstein Apple Fair in Sebastopol and Sturgeon's Sawmill in Occidental until his death at age 79.
