Description
Two boys sit at a restaurant after eating tacos. They sit in front of a table with their empty plates. The boy in the back drinks Coca-cola from a glass bottle. The boys just finished shining an officer's shoes and used the money they earned to eat. The 80's were considered the "lost decade" because of Mexico's debt crisis. This was due to the falling oil prices that left Mexico without foreign currency to pay off its $80 billion debt. This in effect, increased high levels of unemployement. In 1981, 52.5 percent of households in Mexico were considered poor.
