Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph article dated June 26, 1961 partially reads, "Swimming held no attraction for Cindy Plaisted last year, no matter how much her parents tried to interest her in the sport...Now the little blonde works out in a regular speed class two days a week and reports to a swim school three mornings a week for extra distance workouts. The payoff for all this training came last month when she set an unofficial mile mark for 5 and 6-year-olds. Cindy, using the overhand free-style stroke, raced the mile distance -- 70 laps at the Woodland Hills Swim School, 5338 Topanga Canyon Blvd.--in 41 minutes and 43 seconds...Cindy is following closely in the footsteps of an older sister, Karen, 8, who is considered one of the top swimmers in her age group in Southern California." Karen and Cindy Plaisted, seen left to right, at practice with coach Ken Ketchie at the Woodland Hills Swim School.
