Description
Scarp face of the Topanga anticline, denuded of chaparral growth by forest fire which reveals the three strata: Sespe, Vaqueros and Topanga formation lying conformably upon each other. The Sespe sandstone is in the foreground of the lower center portion of the picture. Directly above the Sespe dome-like mass can be seen the Vaqueros formation as a thin stratum of white sandstone, the upper third portion of the escarpment is composed of Topanga formation with streaks of fossiliferous rock. At the upper left hand corner, the fossil cliff of Calabasa Peak is prominent. From a geological standpoint this is an interesting picture.
