Description
Mattoon's women's clothing store and Gerlach's art goods were located in the 400 block of East Colorado Street. In 1925, Gerlach's was being run by Walter Gerlach and his wife, Bertha. Mattoon's was owned by Raymond Matoon and his wife, Bessie. Both businesses followed a similar course in the subsequent years. By 1928, both women were widows, running their families' businesses. Gerlach's closed in 1931, and Mattoon's closed a few years later in the mid-1930s. The back of the photograph is stamped in purple in "Photographs from Frederick W. Martin; 60 E. Colorado St., Pasadena, Cal."
