This moonstone is at the Audience Hall of the palace complex. Moonstones of this period at the Palace complex are different in shape and design from those in Anurādhapura and Polonnnaruva, and lack, as here, the depiction of animals. Here, instead of a half-lotus, the shape is derived from an oval. While reference to the lotus is retained, foliage dominates the rest of the design. Other designs on moonstones at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic incorporate the full lotus.
