Description
This March 1942 photograph shows a recently modernized Globe Mills building at 1125 C St. Its renovation, started in August 1941, came via the federal government's wartime plan to increase grain storage capacities and overcome nationwide shortages. At completion, the building's 46 signature silos measured 125 feet in height and, at capacity, could hold up to 500,000 bushels of grain.
