Description
This series of seven photos were taken at the Otis Art Institute, in the stone Gothic structure that was the home of General Harrison Gray Otis, owner and publisher of the Los Angeles Times. General Otis named his house the "Bunker". Otis Art Institute began in 1918 when General Otis bequeathed this MacArthur Park property to start the first public, independent professional school of art in Southern California. Otis has long been considered one of the major art institutions in California. It is considered among the top ten nationwide, often falling somewhere in the top five. Photo 4 shows several students painting the portrait of a person wearing a bathing suit, some are sitting on the lawn and some are standing. The model poses dramatically atop a small box.
