Black and white lantern slide showing the trading port of Basankusu, once the headquarters of the Abir Congo Company (founded as the Anglo-Belgian Indian Rubber Company), a rubber harvesting company on the private land of King Leopold II of Belgium in the Congo Free State. It is now in the Equateur Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo. This slide comes from a collection generated by missionaries working for the Congo Balolo Mission, a mission begun in 1889 under the supervision of the East London Training Institute for Home and Foreign Missions that developed into the interdenominational evangelical mission Regions Beyond Missionary Union after 1900.
