Description
This early can label for white cling peaches features an illustration of a gardenia to call out to customers. On the right side of the label are instructions to "empty contents of can as soon as opened." Garden City Packing Company was a member of the California Fruit Canners Association which in 1916 joined with other canners to become the California Packing Corporation. The other founding members of Calpak were Central California Canneries, Griffen & Skelley, and the J.K. Armsby Company. California Packing Corporation sold its products under a number of proprietary and distributive labels, including their premium brand, Del Monte. In June 1967, the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corporation. This label was printed by the Muirson Label Company of San José. Located on Stockton Avenue, Muirson was the only label-printing operation in the Santa Clara Valley from its founding in 1914 until its closure in 1970.
