Description
This August 28, 1950, photograph captures the northern stretch of K Street between 10th and 11th streets. The Bon Marche department store at 1031 K St. was known to be one of the premier women’s clothing merchants in Northern California. It was established at the pictured location in 1933, when the structure was renovated for $150,000. It had been at Seventh and K streets since 1913, having been established there by Emile and Mitchell Nathan. Above the store are the Parkview Apartments. Bon Marche was sold to the San Francisco-based Ransohoff’s in May 1956. To the left of the store are what would become Career Girl and the Julius Style Shop. The newly renovated and named Crest Theater, featuring James Stewart’s "Broken Arrow," sits to the left of the photograph at 1013 K St.
