Description
Label for Hotchkiss 'Glass Jar' Label Brand Dri-Pak Prunes, California Packing Corporation, San Francisco, California. In the 1920's, canners began packing in glass so that customers could see the high quality of the product. Label includes a recipe. Printed on the label, "Empacadas Por California Packing Corporation California, E.U.A. Para L. Van Bokkelen, Importador Buenos Aires." [Translation: Packed by California Packing Corporation California, U.S.A. For L. Van Bokkelen, Importer Buenos Aires.] The California Packing Corporation (later known as Calpak) was formed in 1916 as the result of the merger of the California Fruit Canners Association, the Central California Canneries, Griffen & Skelley, and the J.K. Armsby Company. California Packing Corporation sold its products under a number of proprietary and distributive labels, including their premium brand, Del Monte. In June 1967, the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corporation.
