Description
Photograph shows a group of girls hiking down a trail in the redwoods. There is a large redwood tree to the left of the trail. The girls are probably campers at the YWCA's Camp Ayun Mapu in Big Basin, California. On verso: Stamped in blue: "Y.W.C.A. San Jose, Cal". Stamped in black: "Sample's Photo Service Phone Ballard 8440 650 E. William St., San Jose Jul 29 1938". The YWCA's Camp Ayun Mapu at Big Basin near Boulder Creek attracted about 150 girls for two week sessions in the summer. Big Basin became a state park in 1902. 1938-07 Scanned with Microtek Scanmaker 1000XL Pro; as a 600 dpi TIFF image in 24-bit RGB color.
