Description
This is a side a of tape 2, from day one, of Drucker’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation course. For the majority of the recording, Drucker discusses conflict resolution and the importance of thinking through alternatives. Drucker highlights that one should re-phrase the problem at hand as a question rather than deciding between what is right and wrong in a given problem or situation. In particular, Drucker stresses that conflict resolution, as a management tool, seeks to understand the issues because in a conflict ones does not start with the answer about who or what is right because each answer is right to different question; one needs to determine the questions behind the conflict and work from there. Drucker also discusses his relationship with Alfred P. Sloan and writing his book on general motors, which he refers to as a “constitutional” approach, modeled after Plato’s republic.
