Description
Medium shot of a loose line of soldiers awaiting orders. They hold their rifles at side and wear stern expressions. Several buildings appear in the background. The sinking of Battleship Maine in Havana harbor in 1898 was followed by protests that sparked the declaration of War on Spain on April 24. Call for volunteers brought more than 100,000 men from training camps. There are more stereographs of this war than any other-Underwood & Underwood alone published more than 2,000 images.
