Charles Handy thought for the day on how parents and grandparents should invest in the generations of the future. Handy begins the thought discussing how a photograph, captured by his wife, of an African child standing ankle deep in garbage prompted Handy to consider how current generations leave debts and burdens for their children and grandchildren to tackle. He goes on to talk about the Ten Commandments and how the second of them, about God visiting the sins of the fathers upon the children, resonated with him when he considers that it is perhaps time to start investing in children instead of borrowing from them.
