Several men holding American flags, one with his right hand over his heart, stand at the forefront of this photo taken at the Lotus Festival, a pan-Asian celebration. The event has been held at Echo Park since the late 1970s and it showcases a different Asian ethnicity (such as Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Filipino, Bangladeshi, etc.) every year. Given the large amount of lotus leaves in the Echo Park Lake, it is said to contain the largest planting of lotuses outside Asia. Photograph dated July 12, 1997.
