Description
Photograph of the statue of General Harrison Gray Otis in Westlake Park, [s.d.]. General Otis, soldier and journalist, is shown on a central pedestal rock, gesturing off towards the viewer. Below him, a young soldier is depicted standing with what appears to be a flag slung over his shoulder. To the left, a young boy is depicted peddling newspapers and is seen from behind. The statue was sculpted by Paul Troubetskoy in 1920. The young soldier later disappeared from the monument, apparently hit by a car. Its last known location was the basement of the Otis Art Institute. The inscription on the monument's plaque reads "General Harrison Gray Otis, 1837-1917. Soldier, journalist, friend of freedom. Stand fast, stand firm, stand sure, stand true".
