Description
Image of a broadside with three columns of text containing a circular addressed to the "People of Ohio" from the Ohio State Board of Centennial Managers pertaining to Ohio's role in the 1876 Centennial Exhibition in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with sections titled "The Building," "Classification," and "The Duty of Ohio" and signed by board members Rufus P. Ranney, Rutherford B. Hayes, Edward F. Noyes, Barnabas Burns, and George W. McCook.
"To the People of Ohio : The undersigned, composing the Board of Centennial Managers for the State of Ohio, take the liberty to address you on the subject of celebrating the one Hundredth Anniversary of the Declaration of American Independence, by holding an International Exhibition, at the City of Philadelphia in the year 1876. ... The Legislature of Ohio by an act passed February 18,1874, provided for the appointment of a State Board of Managers for the purpose of ‘organizing the State, and securing its thorough representation in the Exhibition.’ … How shall Ohio appear in that great assembly of sister States? What treasures shall she bring to command the admiration of her elder and the delight of her younger sisters? ... We are already under great obligations to the press of the State for its aid in bringing the subject before the people, and we hope that it may continue to help us in all our efforts to induce the people of Ohio to look upon this Exhibition as involving the credit of the State. R. P. Ranney, R. B. Hayes, E. F. Noyes, B. Burns, G. W. McCook."--text, portions of item text.
