Description
Mather Field's headquarters building is shown in this 1942 postcard. Opening as an aviation training school in 1918, Mather was rehabilitated as a military installation in 1941. The four million dollar revitalization involved the employment of 1,700 workers and the use of 13 Sacramento-area contractors, including A. Teichert and Company and their construction of Mather's 850,000 dollar runway.
