Description
The people of Venice vs. the Developers (aka The Jaya Mural), Venice, 1975. 316 South Venice Boulevard (mural on Dell St.). On the left side a bulldozer tears down a house with someone in it. The other side shows how the Venice canals would be destroyed under the nurturing care of the residents themselves. The word Jaya in Sanscrit means non-violent victory. The mural was restored in 1996, sponsored by the Social and Public Art Resource Center. 15' x 25', designed by Emily Winters, assisted by Judith Foster. Painted by Jaya, a Women Artists Collective. Sponsored by Citywide Mural Project. -- Dunitz, Street gallery, rev. 2nd ed., p. 190, #7.
