Red can label with orchard scene. "Lustre Brand" above scene & "Dri-Pak Prunes" under it. Net Weight 5 lbs California Packing Corporation Main Office San Francisco, Cal. U.S.A. The California Packing Corp. was formed in 1916 as the result of the merger of the Ca. Fruit Canners Assoc, the Central Ca Canneries, Griffen & Skelly and the J.K. Armsby Co. J.K. Armsby became the Corp.'s first President. The Ca Fruit Canners Assoc formed in 1899 had already adopted the "Del Monte" label as its premier brand. The Calpak Corp. continued to promote "Del Monte". Because of its size and financial resources Calpak was able to establish a national market for the Del Monte brand of canned fruits and vegetables. Such a thing had never before been attempted. At the same time however, the Ca. Packing Corp continued the practice of selling their products under a bumber of other proprietary and distributive labels. The Ca. Packing Corp. gradually evolved from an old-line canning company into a modern multi-national food processing organization. In June 1967 the company name was officially changed to the Del Monte Corp. and in 1979 Del Monte merged into R. J. Reynolds Industries.
