Description
This circa 1930 photograph captures a Sacramento Junior College racing shell with eight rowers and a coxswain on the Sacramento River. Coached by "Babe" Dunwoody, in March 1930 on the Oakland Estuary the team defeated the University of California, Berkeley, "first year men," only to lose to the varsity squad. A week later, on the Sacramento River, the Panthers again defeated Berkeley's freshmen shell.
